My Internship Experience at A Global Company

What you should know:

  • I was a Marketing Communications intern at Nidec Industrial Solutions

  • I designed and implemented the marketing strategy for a product launch campaign

  • I built a strong foundation for my future career in marketing

This past summer, I had the wonderful opportunity to intern at a global company where I learned a lot about what it takes to be a marketer in the real-world! I was selected out of a large pool of candidates to be the Marketing Communications intern at the North American headquarters of Nidec Industrial Solutions. This company is part of the larger Nidec Group, and is a platform that combines the products and services of numerous power control and system solutions companies.

My experience as an intern at this company was certainly one I’ll never forget. When I first started, I knew nothing about the power control and system solutions industries, so I was feeling pretty overwhelmed on my first day when I was surrounded by engineers and lots of science terms! But my mind was set at ease as I discovered that my coworkers were extremely helpful and would guide me through my internship journey, teaching me lessons they learned along the way.

As the weeks came and went, I found myself gaining valuable knowledge and experience. I learned how to keep track of sales data through Salesforce, manage digital marketing through HubSpot and edit a website through WordPress. I worked closely with the graphic design team to create promotional materials and got to understand the behind-the-scenes logistics of a multi-billion dollar company.

My favorite part of the internship was designing the marketing strategy for the North American launch of Nidec’s EV chargers! For this project, I made a marketing calendar that laid out the different aspects of the campaign, acting as a timeline for the important events leading up to the launch. The calendar included a schedule of LinkedIn posts and emails, press releases, website updates and trade show presentations. It felt so amazing to be trusted to run the campaign and oversee the implementation of it all!

During my three months of interning at Nidec, I was able to apply my classroom knowledge to real-world challenges. The insights and skills I gained helped to build a strong foundation for my future career and will be carried with me through each new journey. This internship truly was a great learning experience!
